Introduction

The Pi Network app keys flow centers on the generation of your non-custodial 24-word passphrase (your private key) in the Pi Browser. The waiting state occurs afterward while the network uses a queuing system to transfer your mined, unverified "Pi" onto the actual Mainnet blockchain.

App Keys Flow

  • Generation: You generate your wallet in the Pi Browser. The app uses a complex algorithm to derive your secret wallet address from a unique, user-readable 24-word passphrase.
  • Non-Custodial Nature: Because the Pi Wallet is non-custodial, the Pi Core Team never retains or recovers a copy of this passphrase. If you lose it, the coins are permanently inaccessible.
  • Mainnet Checklist: Once generated, you must proceed to the Mainnet Checklist inside the primary Pi Network app to officially link and confirm your wallet address to your account (Step 3).

The Waiting State (Post-Key Generation)

After generating your keys and completing the checklist, your account will enter a mandatory waiting state for Mainnet Migration.

  • Batch Processing: Mainnet transfers are completed in batches to prevent network overload. The time it takes can range from a few days to several months, depending on the queue size and your region.
  • Fast Track KYC: If you are a new user, you may encounter a Fast Track KYC queue that allows you to activate your Mainnet wallet earlier, though full migration is still subject to standard batching.
  • The 14-Day Pending Phase: When your migration finally processes, the funds will appear in your wallet but will be placed in a 14-day mandatory pending period. This security delay gives the network a final window to reverse transactions if account theft or a security breach is detected.
  • Lockup Commitments: During the checklist process, you can optionally lock up a portion of your Pi. Once this lockup commitment is made, it is irreversible.
